Dr. Sneha Chitra is a UK-trained Functional Neurosurgeon and Consultant Neurosurgeon specialising in advanced neuromodulation therapies for movement disorders and chronic pain, alongside the full spectrum of brain and spine surgery. With over a decade of neurosurgical experience and advanced international training across India, the United Kingdom, Japan, and the United States, she combines surgical precision, cutting-edge technology, and compassionate patient-centred care to deliver meaningful functional outcomes and improve quality of life.
She completed the prestigious Royal College of Surgeons, England-Fellowship in Functional Neurosurgery at the Wessex Neurological Centre, University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust, United Kingdom, and holds the FRCS (Neurosurgery) from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. She obtained her MCh Neurosurgery from Madras Medical College, Chennai, and her MBBS from Government Stanley Medical College, where she graduated as one of the institution’s top-performing students, receiving multiple gold medals and distinctions, including the Best Outgoing MBBS Student Award and the Prof. S. Kalyanaraman Award for Best Outgoing Student in Neurosurgery.
International Training & Expertise
Dr. Sneha has pursued advanced subspecialty training at internationally renowned centres. Her global experience includes fellowships in Skull Base Surgery at Osaka City University Graduate School of Medicine, Japan, and Cerebrovascular & Endovascular Neurosurgery at Fujita Health University Bantane Hospital, Japan. She has also completed the Executive Education Programme in Neuromodulation (EEPIN) from University College London, UK.
In recognition of her academic and clinical excellence, she was selected for the prestigious American Association of South Asian Neurosurgeons (AASAN) Ambassadorship at Harborview Medical Center, University of Washington, Seattle, USA.
Clinical Interests
Dr. Sneha’s clinical interests encompass Functional Neurosurgery and Neuromodulation, including Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) for Parkinson’s disease, Essential Tremor and Dystonia, Spinal Cord Stimulation (SCS), Peripheral Nerve Stimulation, and advanced therapies for chronic pain. She has a special interest in the management of Headache disorders, facial pain and Trigeminal Neuralgia and other cranial nerve disorders using both minimally invasive percutaneous procedures and microsurgical techniques. In addition, she provides comprehensive care for patients with brain tumours, skull base lesions, cerebrovascular disorders, spinal disorders, spinal tumours, traumatic neurosurgical conditions, and peripheral nerve disorders, offering both conventional and minimally invasive surgical solutions tailored to individual patient needs.
Dr. Sneha believes in a multidisciplinary and personalised approach to patient care, ensuring that every treatment plan is tailored to the individual’s symptoms, goals, and quality-of-life priorities.
